System Administration Training Outline:

( 10 meetings all together, each meeting takes about 2 hours)

  1. Network introduction: Network physical connection(net card, switch, router, …), TCP/IP protocol(IP address of public, private; Subnet, Subnet Mask, default gateway); Set up Unix system user account, Unix system Start up/Shut Down, Init 0, 1, 5, 6 practice.
  2. Unix system administration basics: Root/SU login, TCP/IP 3 basic file configuration on the stand along station; cat, vi editor; Disk Space configuration and control(df, core file, find, rm –r, …)
  3. Unix system administration basics: tape back up and recovery(mount, tar); admintool, solstice, user password, printer issues.
  4. Unix system administration basics: pkgadd, pkginfo, pkgdelete, web file installation(file, zip/unzip, ….), unix ftp/web server administration.
  5. stand along and client/server system difference. NISPLUS configuration.
  6. Disktop/PC/Station/Server configuration and administration.(Hardware troubleshooting, Software installation, and  update, maintain issues).
  7. 2000 Server, XP, 2003 Server, Database: SQL, SQL server, Internet Information Server installation and configuration.
  8. Firewall issues: proxy, checkpoint, XP firewall.
  9. Internet issues: web page, .net technology, photoshop, Dreamweaver, web interface, E-commerce, Java, flash…
  10. Using photoshop and Dreamweaver to design your first site.
