Empowering for Success of Women in Computing –

Legacies, Problems and Solutions

Project Goals

In this project we will gather data, analyze and research issues on women in computing, compile and publish information regarding CUNY colleges, and NYC universities on a publicly accessible Web site, and conjecture future directions for research and programs that can increase the numbers of women in computing and provide gender equity in the workplace.

Projected Outcomes

  • Compilation of information on the legacies of well-known women in the filed of computing. Outline of their contributions, background, and education.

  •  Compilation of reasons for joining the computing forces, gathered from women with different background and education level. This will provide motivation for women enrolled in programs in Computing and allow more focused training and sense of guidance and support.

  • Constructing a database with information of all women enrolled in PhD program in Computing in CUNY containing detail of the accomplished work for the past 3 years.

  • Constructing a database with information of all women faculty in Computing in CSI and CUNY containing details of their teaching, scholarly and professional activities. Preparation of their profiles with additional personal suggestions on “What is the key to professional success in the academic environment”.

  • Constructing a database with information of all women students enrolled in graduate program in Computing in CUNY colleges containing details of their progress. Preparation of their profiles with additional personal suggestions on “How to combine successfully professional, family and student obligations”.

  • Preparing and maintaining a web-site containing information on issues related to women in computing, announcements, conferences, fellowships, discussions groups, national statistics and results from monitoring the status of women in computer science.
