MSDNAA FAQ
Typical questions when using MSDNAA/ELMS to download
Microsoft software.
1.
Question: What is MSDNAA ?
Answer:
MSDNAA is Microsoft's a special software distribution program for schools;
which
allows faculty and students to freely
acquire and use a wide selection of Microsoft software.
2.
Question: How do I get an account ?
Answer: At the start of each semester, the CS Dept Program Administrator automatically creates one account for
each student who is registered in at least one CSI computer science (CSC)
course.
3.
Question: What if I am not a CS major, can I
still use MSDNAA ?
Answer:
Yes – the only requirement is that you are registered for at least one CSI
computer science (CSC) course.

Question: How do I get the software ?
Answer:
You will need to
use a personal computer and a web browser to REGISTER, LOGIN, and then DOWNLOAD
the software. Please follow these instructions
before downloading MSDNAA software:
a. Use your web browser to go to www.cs.csi.cuny.edu
b. Select the Quick Links, MSDNAA.
b. Select REGISTER; enter your Student Identifier, your
email address, and a password of your choice.
d. After Registration is complete, proceed to LOGIN.
e. At LOGIN, enter your email address and the password.

Question: Please provide me with my Student Identifier so that I can
register for MSDNAA.
Answer:
The Student Identifier is: LastnameFirstname1234
●1234 are the last 4 digits of your social security
number
● CAPITALIZE the first letter
of your Lastname and first letter of
your Firstname.
● Do not include spaces.
6.
Question: I have a very long Firstname or
Lastname; so my Student Identifier does not fit in the Student Identifier
'box'. What should I do?
Answer:
You are only
permitted to enter the first 16
characters of LastnameFirstname then add the last 4 digits of your Social Security number.
for example: Georgette
Student Identifier is: WashingtonGeorg8899
7. Question: When I try to REGISTER, the
following Error message is displayed:
Please correct the
following errors:
Sorry,
your Student Identification Number does not exist in the database. Please
contact your program administrator.
Answer: Please REGISTER again by following
#4, 5, 6 :
A. Student Identifier
B. email address (indicate whichever
email address you plan to use)
C. password (select your own password
--- pls keep a written record)
D. If the Error message appears again,
please contact the Program Administrator (orit@mail.csi.cuny.edu).
8.
Question: I just Registered and received an
Error message indicating that I am
already registered. What does this mean ?
Answer:
You have previously
Registered; either during this semester or during previous semesters. Please
proceed to LOGIN.
9. Question:
I did REGISTER, but
now I cannot LOGIN ?
Answer: At LOGIN, enter your email address and your password
(the same one you entered during Registration).
10.
Question: I forgot my password. How can I get
my password ?
Answer:
Please go to the LOGIN page, enter your email address, and select the Forgot My Password
link and your password will be emailed
to you.
11.
Question: OK, I did try to LOGIN a few times,
unsuccessfully; but then I finally remembered my password ! However, I still
get an ERROR saying email or password is incorrect. Why ?
Answer:
After 3 incorrect Logins, your account is locked (deactivated). So you
must contact the Program Administrator (orit d. gruber, orit@mail.csi.cuny.edu). To reactivate
your account. please email the Program Administrator the following information:
Your Name, Course and section numbers,
Professor, Student Identifier, email address, and password.
12.
Question: I followed the instructions for
Registering. However, I receive an ERROR that my Student Identifier is not a
valid account. Why ?
Answer:
If you registered
for your CSC class late, you might not have an account; please contact the
Program Administrator (orit@mail.csi.cuny.edu). Your account will then be verified and if
necessary created. Please include Your Name, Course and section numbers, Professor, Student Identifier, and
email address .
13. Question:
When I
REGISTER, I use my Student Identifier and my Email Address yet I still receive
the following message:
It seems that you have already registered. Please
use the Forgot My Password link on the login page to get your password.
Answer: You have previously Registered.
Please proceed to LOGIN with your email address and password. If you do not
remember your password, please select the
Forgot My Password link and your password will be emailed to you.
14. Question: When I try to LOGIN using my
Email address and password I get the following Error message:
The Email Address and Password you entered are not valid in this system.
There are two possible causes for this:
1.
You entered your Email Address or password
incorrectly, or
2.
Your account has been disabled due
to a change in your academic status. Your status may have changed as a result
of withdrawing from a course(s) or graduating from school.
Answer: Try to LOGIN again. If this Error reappears,
it means either that you are using the incorrect email address and/or password;
or that your account has been disabled because you
are not registered in a CSC course this semester. If you are registered for at
least one CSC course this semester, please contact the Program Administrator (orit@mail.csi.cuny.edu) for
assistance.
15. Question: While I was trying to download software, I got the following
error:
An error has occurred
The delivery client has
encountered an error and is unable to continue.
Please review the error and try
again.
Error Code: SDC00400
An error has occurred trying to
download. Possible causes are:
No Connection
etc ...
Answer: Before attempting to download more
MSDNAA software, download the following free Download Manager --- GetRight 5.2d:
First, use your web browser to go
to: www.download.com.
Then in the search box (top right), enter
download free getright. Several sources
for downloading this software will be displayed. Select one of the download buttons,
to proceed with downloading/installing this software on your computer.
